Mike van Drongelen started developing software from the very first moment he had access to a computer. At the age of nine, he started programming in an obscure Basic variant. Currently, he works as a mobile solution consultant in the Netherlands. Besides this, he also runs his own start-up. He speaks English, Dutch, German, and a little French, but most of the time, he speaks Java, JavaScript, HTML, Objective C, Swift, C#, and ASP.NET. He develops Android, iOS, and .NET solutions for various customers and has some projects of his own. One of his projects is an e-learning solution called TeamSpot. Another one is Finiware, which is a company developing B2B specific solutions. Creating better software using less code is what he is aiming for, which explains why he is interested in the lean start up methodology. In addition to this, he is interested in technology and topics such as continuous delivery, Test-driven development, and Behaviour Driven Development. Your cookbook guide to Android Studio

The book by Mike van Drongelen is really well written and will guide you through the latest IDE provided by Google: Android Studio.

Once downloaded, installed and configured Android Studio (argument of the first chapter of the book), you are put in the battlefield very quickly. The cookbook style is really powerful in my experience and in this case, too. You can jump from one recipe to the other without any worries about having "lost something". In any case, you could jump back to something skipped before, in case you need it...

Android Studio could be a bit confusing if you came from Eclipse. There are so much features in the IDE and a core (based on gradle) that could confuse a beginner or someone used to Eclipse. To simplify the approach, a very simple technique is used in the book: it does not talk about it! It simply show you in every chapter something new, but talking about something else. In this way, you are introduced to the Material Desing, to Android Wear, to powerful fragments and so on, using the IDE and very nice examples, but without speaking "directly" of the IDE.

A couple of items must be highlighted: the first one is the information provided about emulators. Everyone using Eclipse and the standard Android Emulator knows how heavy and slow it could be. Mike will show you some alternatives (explaining you pros and cons of all of them!) in order to reach the target: emulate and Android device without needing a NASA supercomputer. The second item is the (short) introduction he gives about beta testing in the Google Play Store environment. I found it very useful for anyone who have intention to publish his application on the market!

In my opinion this is one of the best book written on the Android Studio IDE. I will wait for the book explaining all the gradle features!

Great book to make the jump from Android Eclipse programming to the new Android studio.
If provides a great way to get used to your new Android developing environment with relevant and current examples like Android Wear.
It guides you through the process of getting used too the environment, designing an app, testing it and deploying. It goes beyond Android Studio and would even be acceptable as an introductory Android programming book.

If you need this for a class but want an older edition, go for it. Almost all the research is 30+ years old. Also, I'm all for women empowerment, but this book is definately biased and makes the research conclusions unreliable. There are better options out there.

Good but not great

If you want to learn the THEORY of structural dynamics, this is not the best book to get. This book does not cover many of the derivations and mathematics that are behind structural dynamics; rather, it gives a brief presentation of the theory and goes directly into earthquake engineering applications. If you want to learn the core fundamentals and theory of structural dynamics, I would highly recommend J.L. Humar's textbook: "Dynamics of Structures." That being said, it IS an excellent textbook for earthquake engineering, and is probably most valuable for practicing structural engineers or for any earthquake engineering course.

Good book

Very good book for learning the theory of structural dynamics. You do need a background in differential equations and a little of matrix algebra to be able to derive some formulas but the book is very good in explaining the behavior of a system in question. However, I find the problems okay. I would recommend the structural dynamics book by Tedesco for extra problems to solve and some useful tables and graphs.

Excellent book in dynamics

The organization and presentation is excellent. It is organized into two main parts: single degree of freedom systems(SDF) and multiple degree of freedom systems(MDF). An in-depth study of SDF systems comes first naturally since MDF systems can be viewed as solving multiple SDF systems. In terms of rigor, many proofs and derivations are provided. These are usually kept separate at the end of various sections within the chapters such that the reader would not get lost in the details. The problems are also wonderful in that they challenge the reader to think critically about the subject. In short, it is a great book for students exposed to dynamics for the first time.

very informative, can't put down kind of story. Makes me appreciate being a woman in 21st century. I now realize how far we have come, even though this is fiction, i know it is based on history. This story is very colorful, funny in parts and sad in parts. Not recommended for young minds, on many levels.
